In relation to the ante-natal work, the following figures,
obtained from the record of the Borough Maternity Home, are of
interest.
Cases of albuminuria requiring admission, 20. Results—
Mother—good; baby—good. Cases of eclampsia—nil.
Cardiac cases.—2. Results—Mothers—1 died; babies—both
good.
Antepartum hemorrhage.—5 cases. Accidental—2 cases.
Results—Mother—2 good; baby—2 good. Placenta prævia—3
cases. Results—Mother—all good; baby—all good.
Inductions.—36 cases. Methods used and results—Drugs, 29
(mother—all good; baby—all good). Rupture of membranes, 6
(mother and baby—all good). Tube, 1(mother—good; baby—
good).
Indications for—albuminuria, 6 cases; disproportion, 8; post
maturity, 4; high blood pressure, 5; cardiac disease, 2; antepartum
hæmorrhage, 4.
Forceps deliveries.—20 cases. Indications—Cardiac disease, 2;
persistent occipito posterior presentation, 8; long second stage, 5;
fætal distress(2 with prolapsed cord), 5. Results—Mothers—19
good; 1 died. Babies—17 good; 3 died.
Examinations under anæsthesia carried out—22 cases. For
diagnosis of presentation, 3; for external version, 19 (successful 11.
unsuccessful 8).
Cesarean Section.—9 cases. Results—Mother, Baby—all good
The subjoined table shows in summary the number of attend-ances, &c., at the municipal ante-natal clinics(excluding the special clinic referred to on page 33) during 1934.

The work of visiting and reporting upon Battersea cases, which
is done by the Council's health visiting staff for the obstetric and
gynµcological departments of several of the larger hospitals is
summarised on page 23.
