Desiccated Soups.
Four informal samples of desiccated soup were procured for
analysis during the year, all of which were reported to be genuine.
Drugs.
The number of samples of drugs submitted to the Public
Analyst for analysis during the year was 7 (all of which were
informal samples) and comprised 2 varieties. In each case the
sample was found to be genuine.
Ice Cream.
There are 204 premises in the borough in which ice cream is
manufactured, stored or sold, 26 of these being occupied by Italian
vendors.
Thirty-eight new premises were registered during the year and
6 were removed from the register on discontinuance of the business,
the number of registered premises therefore being increased by 32.
All the premises, stalls, barrows, &c., from which the trade is
carried on are kept under inspection during the season.
During the year 350 inspections were made and 20 notices
were served (14 intimation and 6 statutory) for cleansing of premises.
The improved conditions under which this commodity is
now prepared and sold in Battersea, referred to in previous annual
reports, are on the whole being maintained.
Milk and Dairies Order, 1926.
The provisions of the above-named Order continued to be
enforced by the Council during the year under report.
Legal proceedings were instituted against a milk vendor who
was found to be trading in Battersea without having been registered
(vide p. 74); and in four cases cautionary letters were addressed to
vendors in respect of offences, viz.: trading in Borough without
being registered therein (1 case), and failure to have the vendor's
vehicle conspicuously inscribed with his name and address (3 cases).
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923.
Under this Order the Council are authorised to issue licences
to others than producers (i.e., persons producing milk for sale from
herds over which they have control). The licences so granted are
available for a period up to the end of the year in which they were
issued. There is a scale of fees payable to the Licensing Authority
by applicants for licences.
