Erysipelas.
There were 72 cases of Erysipelas notified and 4 deaths were
recorded from the disease during 1931 in Battersea. The casemortality
was 5.56 per cent. and the death-rate per 1,000 population
was 0.025.
Measles.
The number of cases of Measles notified or otherwise reported
in 1931 was 89 and there were 2 deaths recorded from the disease.
Of the 89 cases 75 were notified under the Regulations—The
Battersea (Measles and Whooping-Cough) Regulations, 1922—and
the remaining 14 cases were reported by the public elementary
schools or from other sources.
No death occurred among the notified cases, but the percentage
case-mortality of the total incidence (notified and reported) was
2.25 per cent., as compared with 1.13 per cent in 1930 and 0.88
per cent in 1929.
Whooping-Cough.
During 1931 there were 493 cases of Whooping-Cough notified
under the Battersea (Measles and Whooping-Cough) Regulations,
1922, to the Medical Officer of Health and 284 additional cases were
reported from the public elementary schools and other sources.
There were 5 deaths registered from this disease, the deathrate
being 0.03 as compared with 7 deaths and a death-rate of
0.04 in 1930, 43 deaths and a death-rate of 0.27 in 1929, 14 deaths
and a death-rate of 0.08 in 1928, and 15 deaths and a death-rate
of 0.09 in 1927.
The total number of cases notified or otherwise reported during
1931 was 747, as compared with 537 in 1930, 1,317 in 1929, 1,228
in 1928, and 749 in 1927, the increase in 1931 compared with 1930
being 39.1 per cent.
