this course appeared desirable, patients were advised to enter
St. James's Hospital pending a vacancy in one of the London
County Council's Institutions.

The number of sputum examinations carried out at the Tuberculosis
Dispensary during 1928 was 1,398—282 (20-2 per cent.)
of which were positive. Of the total number of specimens examined
517 were sent by medical practitioners and 383 specimens were
examined for St. James's Hospital.
The number of reports sent to public bodies during 1928 was
1,004. Consultations with medical practitioners at the homes of
their patients and reports on patients sent to the Dispensary
numbered 956.

The number of reports received during the year in respect of insured persons was :—
