MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH DENTAL SERVICE
Dental inspections during the year were carried out on 468 children under five years
of age and 49 expectant or nursing mothers. Treatment was offered to 286 (61%) of the
children and 45 (92%) of the mothers.
The dental inspection invitation scheme for three year olds was introduced in 1972.
A total of 294 invitations were sent to the parents of three year olds inviting the children to
receive a dental inspection. Sixty-four responded and were seen at the school clinics and, in
the majority of cases, this was the child's first introduction to the dentist. The results are
encouraging and the scheme will be repeated annually.
Details of work done are given below with comparative details for 1971 in brackets.
