The liaison with the geriatric department, formerly at St. Luke's Hospital, has now
transferred to St. Mary Abbots Hospital, where a nursing officer attends the regular ward
rounds and is able to ensure that services within the home are mobilised before the patient is
discharged. In this way regular visits for both home nurses and health visitors maintain the
service and should re-admission be required this can be quickly arranged with the geriatric
unit.
The liaison with the psychiatrist from the Earls Court Child Guidance Unit (ILEA)
increased to case discussion groups at two health centres weekly, greatly to the benefit of all
concerned.
In-Service Training
Talks were arranged during the year for members of staff. These included
"Improvement Areas" by Mr. D.C. Draper, Chief Public Health Inspector; "Drug Abuse" by

Housing Manager. An "Open Forum" was held by Mr. J. Beddoes, Manager of the local
branch of the Department of Health and Social Security.
A joint study-day for community nursing staff and hospital nursing staff was
arranged with speakers from both services. Ten members of staff from the community
services and fourteen members of hospital staff attended.
