One feature of the work is the increased demand made in
respect of the home supervision of chronic sick old people
awaiting admission, or discharged from, hospital (or not suitable
for hospital treatment). Pour years ago, the number of visits
paid to chronic sick was one hundred and ninety-six, and in 1955,
the figure had increased to five hundred and sixty. These
visits, generally speaking, take up a large amount of time, and
as a consequence the work of visiting old people, believed to
be in reasonably good health, has to be curtailed.
