BIRTHS.
During the year 1,000 births were registered in Chelsea. Of these,
births of non-parishioners account for 441. In addition, there were
176 births amongst Chelsea mothers in Lying-in Hospitals and elsewhere
outside the Borough. The total number of Chelsea Births for
the was therefore 735, equivalent to an annual birth-rate of 12.8
per 1,000 of population.
The birth-rate for England and Wales in 1931 was 15.8, while that
for London as a whole was 15.0.
