by the Authority within a month; or otherwise the Factory
Inspector is empowered to take proceedings and recover
from the Sanitary Authority all expenses incurred in any
successful proceedings in connection with which the
Sanitary Authority was empowered, but failed, to act
(Section 3, Factory and Workshops Act, 1895). 25 such
written notices have been received from the Factory
Inspector during 1897, as compared with 66 during 1896,
and the result of the action taken by the Vestry has been
forwarded in writing by the Medical Officer of Health, to
the Factory Inspector, who has consequently not found it
necessary to take any further action in any one case.
The nature of the work carried on in the different Lambeth
Workshops was found to vary considerably, the
Millinery and Dress Making, Laundry, Tailoring, and
Boot Businesses being, however, the most common.
