In all cases notified the nurses visited and obtained all the
necessary information. Any insanitary conditions found to
exist were referred to the Sanitary Inspectors.
One hundred and forty-seven deaths from Pulmonary
Tuberculosis were registered, against 127 in the previous
year, representing a death-rate of 1.1 per 1,000, compared
with 0.9 in 1923.
The notification of cases of Tuberculosis by medical practitioners
is, unfortunately, not carried out as required by
the Regulations, that is within 48 hours of the same coming
to their knowledge.
There are undoubtedly many difficulties attending the
notification of this disease, but the efforts of Local Authorities,
and the money spent in combating this disease are to a
large extent rendered nugatory.
I append figures for the years 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923 and 1924, showing the interval between notification and death of tuberculous persons.
