Fourteen inquests were held during the year: the cause
of death was natural in seven cases, and in other seven cases
injuries of various descriptions.
The Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of
the Chest.— In the Kensington portion of this, the Brompton
Hospital, there were 150 deaths, including 8 of Kensington
parishioners which are included in Table III. (appendix),
the remaining deaths, of non-parishioners, being excluded
from our statistics.
St. Marylebone Infirmary, Notting-hill.—At this
institution, which is under the control of the Guardians of
the Poor of the Parish of St. Marylebone, 485 deaths were
registered, all of which are excluded from our statistics.
St. Joseph's House, Notting-hill.—The deaths at
this quasi-public institution, with the exception of 3 of
parishioners, are excluded from our statistics. They were 26
in number. Some of the deceased persons had previously
resided in Ireland, some in London, and the remainder in
the provinces and abroad.
Outlying Public Institutions.—The deaths of
parishioners at public institutions, &c., without the parish,
which in the preceding three years, successively, had
numbered 283, 308, and 353, were 333 in 1897. All of these
deaths are included in our statistics. The deaths occurred at
the several institutions as follows :—
