Regulations under Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops Orders,
1885 and 1886.
Further particulars are given under Powers and Duties of the
Public Health Committee on pages 1 and 2.
The tables on pages 43 to 45 and 48 to 54 summarise, as far
as possible, the Sanitary work of the Department; from this it will
be seen that a total of 15,569 houses and premises have been
inspected or re-inspected during the year; 1,291 intimation notices
and 172 statutory notices have been served.
It is very gratifying to be able to report that only in one instance
was it found necessary to institute Police Court proceedings during
the year, particulars of which arc contained in the table on page 52.
There were altogether throughout the year 572 complaints
registered.
Factories, Workshops and Workplaces.—Two hundred
and eighty-six inspections have been paid to these premises within
the Borough during the year. There were 183 workshop premises
on the Register at the beginning of the year, 7 have been added
and 3 taken off, leaving a total now on the Register of 187. This
total includes 8 laundries, 14 dressmaking and mantle works, 11
fuel and firewood works, 3 cycle works, 2 milliners, and various
others, including workplaces, such as 4 blacksmiths, 14 barge
builders, 4 builders' yards, etc.
Outworkers' Register.—Ten lists, containing 35 names
and addresses have been received from employers within the
district. In addition to this 54 lists containing 159 names and
addresses of Outworkers residing in this Borough were received
from Medical Officers of Health of other Boroughs, whilst 11 lists
with 17 names and addresses were forwarded to other districts,
thus giving a total of 177 Outworkers in the Borough. One
hundred and forty-eight visits of inspection have been paid to these
premises.
