and that, in addition, gifts of clothing, beds and bedding, milk,
convalescent letters, etc., were received from various organisations
and friends.
The Board of Guardians have again been most sympathetic in
providing extra nourishment, clothing, etc., to cases recommended
by the Committee.
A sum of £131 towards the cost of treatment of patients was
collected from patients and their relatives for the London County
Council.
As in former years, several parents saved their money by using
the Secretary as their banker, while their children were in Sanatoria,
to provide clothes, etc., for them on their return home.
Several Conferences of Care Committee secretaries were held
during the year at the County Hall and other places, and various
subjects dealing with the work of Care Committees discussed, e.g.,
the need for increased accommodation for advanced cases of
Tuberculosis, Housing and Overcrowding, Employment for exSanatorium
Patients, etc., etc."
The services of the District Nurses in attending and nursing
those advanced cases referred to them from the Dispensary must
be again gratefully acknowledged.
In concluding the Report I would once more thank the members
of the Public Health and Dispensary Staff for their assistance and
co-operation in carrying out the work entrusted to us.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
M. MACDONALD, M.D., D.P.H.,
Tuberculosis Officer
