Pulmonary Tuberculosis: Late Notifications and NonNotifications
of the total deaths from Pulmonary Tuberculosis
in 89 per cent, notification had previously been made under the
Regulations; in 11 per cent, it had not. That notification,
however, is becoming more efficient every year is exemplified by
the fact that the Non-notified cases, which reached 26 per cent,
in 1921, dropped to 13 per cent, in 1924.
Medical men are still asked to notify every case of Tuberculosis
they are called upon to attend, unless they have positive
information that notification has been already carried out, and
many practitioners enquire at the Dispensary if this has been done,
but Hospitals and Institutions still continue in their failure to
notify. Thus, of the 11 cases mentioned in the table below, who
died before notification was received, 10 had received treatment in
Hospital, and the only one instance was the general practitioner in
default. As far as could be ascertained in 7 of these cases, the
average duration of illness was 3 months. The following table
shows the Death Notification interval of 104 patients who died in
1924, and whose deaths were ascribed to Pulmonary Tuberculosis:—

Deaths: During the year 127 persons died from Tuberculosis
(all forms), giving a death rate of 1.21 per 1,000 population; 106
deaths were due to the pulmonary form, equal to a rate of 1.01 per
1,000 population, the lowest ever recorded in the Borough.
