Measles.—This disease was made permanently notifiable by
an Order of this Council, approved by the Ministry on the 1st July,
1920.
One thousand, eight hundred and seventy four cases were
notified during the year, as compared with 706 during the previous
year, and 1,286 for the year 1922. One hundred and fifty-two such
cases were removed to Hospital for treatment.
The ages and incidence of fatality of the disease were as follows:
There were 75 cases under 1 year of age, with 8 deaths at this
age period, giving a case mortality of 10.6 per cent. Between the
ages of one to five years there were 1,090 cases with 19 deaths at
this age period, giving a case mortality of 1.07 per cent., and 709
cases between five years and sixty-five with 1 death, giving a case
mortality of .14 per cent.
The case mortality for the whole district works out at 1.4 per
cent. as compared with .28 per cent for the previous year, and 2.25
for the year 1922.
