Erysipelas.—Fifty cases were notified during the year,
20 being in East Greenwich, 14 in West Greenwich, 10 in St. Nicholas
and 6 in Charlton. Twelve of these patients were removed to a
Public Institution in the district.
Scarlet Fever.—Two hundred and ninety-two cases were
notified during the year, as compared with 958, 599 and 219 cases
respectively in the years 1921, 1922 and 1923, 155 cases were in
East Greenwich, 74 in West Greenwich, 19 in St. Nicholas, 38 in
Charlton and 6 in Kidbrooke; 278 of these cases were removed to
the Hospital for treatment, 2 of which were returned as not suffering
from this disease. There were two deaths from this disease during
the year, compared with a like number the previous year. Of the
278 cases treated in Hospital, the following were certified to be
suffering on discharge from Hospital with chronic disease:—
Rhinitis, 3; and Otorrhcea, 2.
There were no cases which could be described as "Return
Cases."
Typhoid Fever.—There were 11 cases of Typhoid or Enteric
Fever notified during the year, 4 being in East Greenwich, 3 in West
Greenwich, 1 in St. Nicholas and 3 in Charlton. The ages of the
patients were: 1 between one and five years, 3 between five and
fifteen years, 3 between fifteen and twenty-five years, 2 between
twenty-five and forty-five years and 1 between forty-five and sixtyfive
years, and 1 sixty-five years and upwards. Ten cases were
removed to Hospital for treatment. In the years 1920,1921, 1922
and 1923 there were 15, 11, 3, and 16 cases respectively. The
average number for the previous ten years is 13.
No case was traceable to the consumption of shellfish; there
was only 1 fatality from this disease.
Nine specimens were forwarded by medical practitioners for
bacteriological examination from cases suspected to be Typhoid
Fever in character, 2 giving positive results.
Puerperal Fever.—Six cases of this disease were notified
during the year, 2 in St. Nicholas, and 4 in Charlton.
There were 9 cases in 1923, 6 cases in 1922, 11 cases in 1921,
and 5 in 1920. There were 2 deaths from this disease during the
year.
