of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit herewith my Annual Report as
Medical Officer of Health for the year 1921, and am pleased to
be able again to report that the health statistics generally are of a
very satisfactory character.
The Death Rate is 12 41 per 1,000 of the estimated population,
which, although slightly higher than the figure for 1920,
which was 11.72, compares favourably with the average for the last
five years, and the Death Rates for the County of London and
the ninety six large towns.
The Birth Rate is 22.70 per 1,000, the figure for the whole
of the County of London being 22 8.
The Infantile Mortality Rate for the Borough, measured by
the number of deaths under one year to 1,000 births registered,
is 74, which is below what was regarded as the phenomenally
low rate of 75 in 1920. It is useful to compare this figure with
that of 1919, viz., 89, and the average of 93 for the last, five
years.
The Zymotic Death Rate of .76 per 1,000 is also below the
figure of last year, which was .84.
