Twenty-one inspections were made by the Inspectors during
the year.

(c) Other Foods.—Places where food is prepared have been visited on 158 occasions, improvements being required in 28 instances as detailed below:—

The 28 instances where matters needed attention included
cases where the premises generally, or kitchen and scullery particularly,
needed cleansing and lime-washing, 6 where the sanitary
arrangements were defective, 1 which required reconstruction, 10
for want of ashpit, and 1 where the premises were not constructed'
in accordance with the L.C.C. By-laws.
Arrangements have been made for an Inspector to be on duty
every Saturday evening for the purpose of inspecting shops and
other premises where food is prepared, sold or exposed.
At the Foreign Animals' Wharf, now being used as a Reserve
Supply Depot for Army Stores, there is still a quantity of such stores
containing amongst them a large proportion of provisions unfit for
the food of man, and from time to time applications are made to
allow quantities of such stores to be released for purposes other
than for human food.
During the year 6,092 cases, each containing 48 lb. tins of preserved
meat have been so released, 3,338 lbs. of jam, 2,175 eases
