deducting the former and adding the latter, a corrected
total of 2,030* deaths of parishioners is
obtained, which total will be alone used throughout
this report. From this corrected total the commonlycalled
"corrected" death-rate is calculated, but for
the purposes of comparison, further correction for the
sex-age constitution of the population of the Parish
is required, as will be more particularly explained
further on.
The 2,030 deaths of parishioners during the year
comprised 1,005 of males and 1,025 of females,
and were equivalent to a rate of 15"80 per 1,000 of
the population, as compared with a mean rate for the
preceding quinquennium of 15.93. The death-rate
among males was 19.02 per 1,000 (males) living, and
that among females, 13.69, the former being above,
the latter below, the respective quinquennial mean.
(See Table 12.) The death-rates for the year were in
excess of the respective means in North Paddington,
but below in South. In comparison with the preceding
ten years, the corrected total (2,030) for the
Parish was 53 above the average (1,977), whilst
the rate (15.89) was 0.51 below the mean (16.40).
In North Paddington the deaths (1,663) were 123
above the decennial average (1,540), and the rate
(17.64), 0.19 below the mean (17.83). In South
* The corrected total obtained by the Registrar-General was 2,041, or
11 more than that recordod in the office, and the death-rate 16'1 per 1,000,
0 3 higher than that calculated by the Department.
