Of the 228 cases reported from North Paddington,
in 8 instances the original diagnosis was found to be
erroneous; 15 were due to imported infection; in 7,
the attack of diphtheria followed the return home of
patients from hospital, in 2 the disease was contracted
in hospital, and in one the attack of diphtheria
followed one of scarlet fever. In 9 instances the
patient died on the day of notification, and in 8,
previously to notification.
The disease was more prevalent along the northern boundary than in other parts of North Paddington, the following nine streets furnishing 92 cases, more than one-fourth of the number reported in the whole district:—
