Sanitary Conveniences attached to Licensed Premises.
During 1926 the number of public-house urinals under inspection
was 117. In 80 instances the accommodation is accessible to
the general-public as well as the users of the houses, and in 37 cases
the accommodation is accessible to the customers only. As a result
of the annual inspection of these conveniences, 34 notices were
served to remedy defects discovered.
Smoke Nuisances.
During the year 59 observations were made and 2 complaints
received. Two preliminary notices were served by the
Council to abate smoke nuisances, which were duly complied with.
During the year, the Public Health (Smoke Abatement) Act,
1926, was passed by Parliament, but will not come into force until
the 1st July, 1927.
In this Act, increased powers are given to Local Authorities
to prevent the pollution of the atmosphere by smoke.
Effluvium Nuisance.
Three complaints of effluvium nuisance were received during
1926, but in only one case was nuisance established, and in this
case the works having closed it was not necessary to institute legal
proceedings.
Water Supply.
During 1926 applications were received for certificates of
water supply in respect of 31 houses in accordance with Section 48
of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891. The certificates were
granted in each instance.
In 31 cases additional water supply was provided to the upper
floors of tenement houses, as required by the Borough Council
under the provisions of Section 78 of the London County Council
(General Powers) Act, 1907, and Section 48 of the Public Health
(London) Act, 1891.
