The natural increase of population (that is the excess of births
over deaths) was 1,009 in 1926, the lowest figure yet reached except
in the War year 1918, when there was an adverse balance of 109.
Deaths in Public Institutions.
During 1926 the deaths of Battersea residents occurring in
Public Institutions numbered 992. Of this number 696 occurred
within and 296 outside the Borough. Of the total deaths in
Public Institutions 665 occurred in Poor Law Institutions.
Senile Mortality.
During 1926 the deaths of 771 persons aged 65 years and upwards were registered in the Borough of Battersea. The distribution of these deaths is set out in the following table:-
