Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1926

BIRTHS.
The number of births registered in the Borough during 1926
was 3,198 (1,690 males, 1,508 females, an excess of 182 males).
Of this number, 585 were transferred out, the premanent residence
of the parents being outside the Borough and 356 were transferred
here, giving on balance a total 2,969 births relating to Battersea
residents, and a corrected birth-rate of 17.3 per 1,000 of the population.

The following table gives the distribution of the births and the birth-rate per 1,000 population in the Sub Districts and in the Wards for the year 1926:—

The birth-rate in 1926 was the lowest yet recorded, except in 1918.
The birth-rates for the County of London and England and Wales
were also the lowest previously recorded except in 1918. It is to
be noted that the birth-rate in Battersea has declined during the
year in the three Registration Sub-districts. The rate was highest
in Winstanley Ward (21.5), and lowest in Broomwood Ward (10.5).
The birth-rate in Battersea is 3.0 per 1,000 lower than the average
for the previous decennium, 1916-1925.
