BOROUGH MIDWIFERY SERVICE.
During the year, the appointment of the Borough
Midwife was made permanent. Of the 35 bookings
carried forward to 1925, 8 were cancelled, while during
1925 159 bookings were received, of which 13 were
subsequently cancelled. Of the net bookings for the
year (173) 138 mothers were delivered during the
year, 109 by the Borough Midwife, 3 by doctors who
were engaged with the Borough Midwife, and 26 by
various midwives acting as deputy for the Borough
Midwife. Of the 138 mothers delivered, 8 were
primiparæ and 130 multipara. There were 35 expectant
mothers on the books at the end of the year.
The Borough Midwife paid 1,020 visits in connection
with her practice and 87 visits in connection
with the Maternity Clinic. She also attended 36 Infant
Consultation sessions, 77 Maternity Clinic sessions,
and 43 Midwifery Booking sessions.
The Borough Midwife is popular with all her
patients and her retention is thoroughly justifiable,
if alone for the high standard of her work and the large
number of poor persons who are temporarily " down and
out" and who decline poor law benefit as long as
possible.
LONDON HOSPITAL MATERNITY CHARITY.
The decision of the London Hospital to send out a
trained Nurse with the Student in every case is a
great and very necessary move in the right direction
and will prove a source of great comfort and relief
to the poor mothers of Bethnal Green. It is to be
earnestly hoped that this example will be followed
by other similar hospitals in London if it is not already
the practice.
CONVALESCENT TREATMENT.
During the year 4 mothers were sent to the
London Mothers' Convalescent Home, Sunningdale,
Berkshire, 1 mother each to the Evelyn Convalescent
