Four samples of woollen mixture felt failed to meet
the requirements of the Rag Flock and Other Filling
Materials Regulations, 1961, in respect of the chlorine
content. Under the Regulations the maximum permitted
chlorine content of woollen mixture felt should not
exceed 30 parts per 100,000. The four samples in question
gave readings of 65, 34, 32 and 34 parts per 100,000.
These samples were taken from stocks delivered by one
manufacturer.
The matter was reported to the Public Health Committee
and a cautionary letter was sent to the firm. Further
samples have since been taken and found to be satisfactory.
