Six cases of this disease were notified as compared with fourteen in 1937. In each case the patient was removed to hospital.

Two non-notified cases died in hospital stated cause of death
(meningococcal meningitis).
Anti-Meningococcal Serum.
No request was received from general medical practitioners for
an issue of this serum.
Encephalitis Lethargica.
No case of this disease was notified during the year. There were
three deaths certified as being due to encephalitis lethargica of
which only one case had been notified in this Borough some years
previously. Periodical visits are made to all known cases of this
disease residing in the Borough.
Erysipelas.
The number of notifications of erysipelas was 107 as compared
with 79 in 1937. Seventy of these cases were removed to hospital.
There were two deaths.
Malaria.
One case of malaria was notified during the year, and the
diagnosis was confirmed. The patient was stated to have been
employed on an ocean-going liner to the East.
One case of malaria induced for therapeutic purposes was reported
in respect of a patient in a mental hospital.
