Clearance Areas.

During 1938, five unhealthy areas comprising 55 dwelling houses and the displacement of 221 persons, were declared by the Council to be Clearance Areas under section 25 of the Housing Act, 1936, the particulars of which are shown in the following summary:—

During the year 8,459 dwelling houses were inspected under the
provisions of the Public Health (London) Act, 1936, and the
Housing Act, 1936.
This entailed the service of 5,832 intimation notices requiring the
abatement of sanitary nuisances and the repair of dwelling houses
involving 3,336 properties.
It was necessary to serve 1,699 statutory notices and in 38
instances summonses were issued before the requirements of the
Council were carried out.

Inspectors appears in the tables on pages 42 - 44 and 52.
