After adjustment, i.e., by the addition of 574 children born of
Camberwell mothers confined outside the Borough and the deduction
of 466 children of non-residents confined in the Borough, the number
of live births registered as belonging to the Borough was 3,152 (1,630
males and 1,522 females). The birth rate for 1934 was therefore
13.22 per 1,000 of the population as compared with 13.32 last year.
This is the lowest birth rate ever recorded for the Borough.
The fall in the birth rate is not, however, confined to Camberwell, but
is general.
