The number of unemployed persons stated as a percentage
of the insured population of the area equalled 9.3. The number of
persons in receipt of domiciliary relief in the Borough averaged 6,183
weekly throughout the year, as compared with 6,416 in 1933, and for
this information I am indebted to the Local Public Assistance Officer.
Population.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the population for the
mid-year 1934 was 238,360, and this figure has been used for the
completion of the statistical information appearing in this Report

The population of the different wards calculated upon this estimated figure is compared in the following table with that of the Ward Census enumeration which took place in 1931.
