VIII.—PROPAGANDA.
During the year 1938 lectures and demonstrations in every
case illustrated by lantern and cinema films were given as
follows:—
Lectures. Audiences.
Schools 84 20,030
Clubs and other Institutions 59 3,900
Open-air with Cinema Van 60 19,045
203 42,975
This is the largest number of lectures and demonstrations
ever given in one year and is accounted for by the fact that, during
the latter part of 1938, considerable help was given by the Propaganda
Department in the training of First-Aid Volunteers. With;
the object of keeping these volunteers interested, arrangements
were made to give them lectures on physiology and hygiene after
their recognised course had been completed, and as these lectures
seemed to be very much appreciated they have been continued
ever since.
Two new films have been added to the film library, which
now totals 39 films. The arrangements for the school lectures as
set out in last year's annual report have been continued and these
lectures, numbering 84, have been given to audiences of 20,000
school-children, as against 72 lectures and 12,000 school-children
last year.
