I.—VITAL STATISTICS.
GENERAL.
The area of the borough (exclusive of area covered by water)
is 1,336 acres.
The number of inhabited houses at the end of 1937 according
to the Rate Books was 19,483.
The rateable value of the borough on the 31st December,
1937 was £872,611, the product of a penny rate being £3,445.

BIRTHS.
The total number of births belonging to the borough
registered during 1937 was 1421, consisting of 747 males and
674 females. The number for 1936 was 1,545.

compared with 15.4 for 1936.
