outlying Centres. The Committee are indebted to Dr. Beatrice
Lovibond, who voluntarily attended the Deptford Park Hall Centre for
eight months of the year, but was then compelled, through pressure of
work, to relinquish the post.
The present arrangement is that mothers attending these Centres
who wish to see the Doctor are requested to attend at the Town
Hall, but this is not a desirable arrangement from any point of view.
The notification of Births Act is working efficiently. The figures
for 1916 are:-
Births registerd 2918
Births notified 2964

The Municipal Centres have been well attended during the year, and
it is gratifying to note the intelligent interest with which the mothers
follow the various lectures, etc. delivered at each centre. At the
Annual Examination in Infant Care held in December, 40 mothers
were successful in obtaining a " Proficiency Certificate."
The Committee are again indebted to the Mayoress (Mrs. W. A.
Wayland), who kindly presented a prize to each of the successful
Candidates, and who afterwards, with the Mayor, entertained all the
members of the various classes to tea.
