The duties of the Health Visitors were fully explained in the
Report of 1915, and it is perhaps sufficient to add that this work is
being energetically continued.
A new Municipal Centre for Infant Consultations was opened in
the North-West Ward towards the close of the year and already there
is evidence that larger accommodation will be required. At present
negotiations have been opened with the Albany Institute for the
provision of hospital beds in the Babies' Home of that institution.
Much remains to be done in the direction of ante-natal work, and
as there is an increasing number of expectant mothers coming forward
each year, there is ample scope for the employment of additional
Health Visitors for this part of the work alone.
As regards medical attendance the Medical Officer of Health and
the Tuberculosis Officer attend the Town Hall Centres each week, but
it has not been found posssible to give the same attention to the
