Milk and Dairies Act, 1914.
Establishment of Milk Depots.
Memorandum by Chief Inspector.
Section 9 of the Milk and Dairies Act, 1914, enacts
as follows:—
(1) " The sanitary authority of any district may,
with the approval of the Local Government Board,
establish and thereafter maintain depots for the sale
at not less than cost price of milk specially prepared
for consumption by infants under two years of age,
and purchase and prepare milk and provide such
laboratories, plant, and other things, and exercise
and perform such other powers and duties, as may be
necessary for the purposes of this section.
(2) " The Local Government Board may attach
such conditions to their approval as they may deem
necessary."
From the above section it appears that local authorities
have the power, with the consent of the Local Government
Board, to establish and maintain milk depots for the
purposes therein stated.
It should however be noted :—
(1) That the approval of the Local Government Board
must be first obtained.
(2) That such depots are restricted :—
(a) To the sale of milk specially prepared for
infants under two years of age, and
(b) Such milk must not be sold at less than cost
price.
