Vision 1, 6.6 in both eyes ; 2, 6.9 in either eye ; 3, 6.12 or worse in either eye.
(Vision tested with Snellan test type at a fixed distance of 6 metres).
Infectious Diseases in Schools.
In the investigation of cases of scarlet fever, diphtheria, etc., and of
measles, the school teachers are promptly advised in • regard to cases and
contacts, so that the London County Council rules in regard to the exclusion
from school of these can be brought into operation.
It has not been necessary during the year to close any school on account of
infectious disease, but in a number of instances the "unprotected" children
in certain schoolrooms were temporarily excluded on account of measles.
St. Pancras School Clinics.
The following account of the work of the two London County Council
treatment Centres for school children has been kindly furnished by Dr. A. K.
Roche, the Secretary-Superintendent
There are two centres in St. Pancras for the medical treatment of children
attending the primary schools, one at 26, Prince of Wales Road and the other
at Lancing Street, Euston Road, They are conducted in virtue of annual
agreements between the London County Council and the St. Pancras Public
Medical Service, a voluntary association of medical men practising in the
Borough formed expressly for this purpose. The executive body in this
Association is a small Committee, with Dr. J. Wigg as its Chairman and
Dr. A. R. Roche as Secretary and Superintendent of the Centres. In virtue
of this agreement the County Council authorities, as the result of the medical
inspections of the schools by their own medical officers, refer such cases as
