These fifteen areas comprise 455 houses, which, according to information

in about 1,109 lettings by about 4,234 persons (2,767 adults and 1,467
children).
It has not been thought expedient to press forward with these reconstruction
schemes for the time being, more especially as the proposals involve demolition
of the property and displacement of the occupants, if any permanent good is
to be eifected; but several interviews have taken place with the Ministry on
the matter, and proposals are being put forward for dealing in the first instance
with one of these areas on which there is a certain amount of vacant land.
Sidmouth Street and Litcham Street.—The Committee also had under
consideration the preparation of schemes under Part II. of the Act of 1890
for dealing with the unhealthy condition of this property, but pending the
decision of the Ministry in regard to the procedure to be adopted with the
Somers Town proposals, no definite steps have yet been taken to proceed
with them.
