Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
All samples of Margarine were examined for the presence of
The presence of preservative, with the result that of the nine
Preservatives. samples submitted, five were found to contain a
Boron preservative, whilst four contained no preservative other
than salt.
The average content of Boron preservative (in terms of
Crystallised Boric Acid), amounted to 0 22 per cent., equivalent
to 15 4 grains per lb. Margarine.
FLOUR.
Of the eight samples of Flour submitted all informally—
one was reported against as containing Meal Mites (Acarus
Farinae).
JAM.
The two samples of Jam submitted, both informally, were
reported against as containing Glucose.

DRUGS.

Of the 36 samples of Drugs submitted, two were taken with the
necessary formalities of the Acts, and 34 were obtained informally.
