21 deaths were registered as having been caused by Meningitis, .
(four inClapham.two in Putney, three in Streatham, five inTooting,
and seven in Wandsworth). Five of these were of infants under
one year, five from one and under two years, two from two and
under five years, and nine over five years.
As in previous years, inquiries were made from the medical
attendant, and in all the cases the deaths were stated to have
been caused by simple Meningitis.
Bacteriological Examinations.
During the year 600 bacteriological examinations were made
at the Lister Institute.
The following Table shows the number of examinations in
each sub-district and for the whole Borough, also the disease for
which the examination was made and the result of such examination.

Puerperal Fever.
20 cases of Puerperal Fever were notified, (seven in Clapham,
one in Putney, eight in Streatham, none in Tooting and four in
Wandsworth), and nine deaths occurred, (five in Clapham, three
in Streatham and one in Wandsworth).
The death rate was .02 per 1,000, and the case mortality
45 per cent.
