May, 1923.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit herewith my Annual Report as
Medical Officer of Health for the year 1922, and am pleased to be
able again to report that the health statistics generally are of a
very satisfactory character.
The Death Rate is 12.92 per 1,000 of the estimated population,
which, although slightly higher than the figure for 1921,
which was 12.41, compares favourably with the average for the last
five years, and the Death Rates for the County of London and
the 105 Large Towns.
The Birth Rate is 21.00 per 1,000, which figure is the same as
for the County of London.
The Infantile Mortality Rate for the Borough, measured by
the number of deaths under one year to 1,000 births registered,
is 56, which is a record for the Borough, being by far the lowest
ever recorded. The previous best was last year's figure of 74.
The Zymotic Death Rate of .86 per 1,000 is slightly higher than
the figure of last year, which was .76.

The figures relating to the different constituent parts of the Borough are as follows :—
