with the Public Analyst, all samples of milk analysed by him were
reported upon as to the presence or absence of preservatives, which
are in every sample taken. No samples of Cream were taken, either
preservative or otherwise, for this article is not used very largely
within the Borough.
Milk, Mothers and Children Orders.—During the year
55,384 lbs. of dried milk of various kinds have been supplied under
these Orders to mothers and children attending our Infant Consultation
Centres.
Food and Drugs Acts. Four hundred and twenty-four
samples have been purchased under the provisions of the Sale of
Food and Drugs Acts and submitted to the Public Analyst for
analysis, of which 411 were certified to be genuine and 13 adulterated,
the adulterations thus being equivalent to 3.06 per cent. of
the samples taken.
Of the total number of samples purchased, 91 were milk,
of which 5 were certified to be adulterated; the remaining adulterated
samples were 7 of vinegar, and 1 of dripping.
Proceedings were taken in 6 cases, resulting in fines and costs
being imposed in 5 instances.
A warning letter was sent in 7 cases.
