Organs of Special Sense. There were 2 deaths from this
class of causes, equal to a rate of .01 per 1,000.
Circulatory System. The Death Rate from diseases of this
system was 1.21 per 1,000, there being a total of 128 such deaths.
Valvular diseases of the heart were responsible for 110, 2 from
Aneurism, 2 from Embolism, 1 from Angina Pectoris and from
the remaining diseases of this system, 13.
Respiratory System. One hundred and twenty-two deaths
were due to diseases of the respiratory organs, as compared with
237 in the preceding year. The Death Rate under this heading
equals 116 per 1,000. Forty-eight were from Acute and 53 from
Chronic Bronchitis, 111 from the various forms of Pneumonia,
46 being under five years of age, 2 from Emphysema, 5 from
Pleurisy, and 3 from other diseases.
Digestive System. There were 61 deaths from diseases of
this system, equal to a rate of .58 per 1,000. Of this number,
Enteritis was responsible for 10 (9 being under five years of age),
10 to Appendicitis, 8 to Obstruction, and 4 to other diseases of the
Intestines, 4 to Cirrhosis, and 2 to other diseases of the Liver, 4 to
Peritonitis, 12 to Ulcer of Stomach and Duodenum, 4 to other
diseases of Stomach, and 3 to other diseases of the Digestive System.
Lymphatic System. There was 1 death from diseases affecting
this system during the year.
Urinary System. Thirty-nine deaths, equal to a rate of .37
per 1,000, occurred from diseases affecting this system. Twentysix
were from Bright's Disease, 6 from Acute Nephritis, 4 from
diseases of the Bladder and Prostate, and 3 from ill-defined causes
of the urinary system.
Reproductive System. There was only 1 death due to
disease of the Generative Organs, this being attributed to Disease
of Ovaries. There were 2 deaths attributed to diseases of
Parturition.
Bones and Joints. There were no deaths from diseases of
bones and joints.
Integumentary System. There was 1 death from disease
of Integumentary System.
External Causes. There were 56 deaths given as due to
causes grouped under this heading; 47 were the result of accident
or negligence, and the remaining 9 were from Suicide.
Three children died of Suffocation by being overlaid in bed
during 1920 (compared with 4 from this cause last year); 6 cases
were from Drowning, 3 from Burns and Scalds, while accidents
