Cowhouses. The four cowhouses in the Borough have been
visited on 10 occasions, and the required cleansing has been duly
enforced on 9 occasions.
Horse Slaughterer. The one horse-slaughtering house in
the Borough has been visited by the Inspector on 20 occasions,
and cleansing of the premises was required on 2 of these visits.
Other Scheduled Offensive Trades. The premises where
these offensive trades were carried on within the precincts of the
Foreign Animals Wharf have now been taken over by the War
Office and are now in use as a barracks and Army Service Depot.
Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops Order. At the commencement
of the year there were 158 premises on the Register
of Dairies and Milkshops; 7 new applications have been received
during the year and added to the Register, and 25 names have been
taken off, thus leaving a total of 140 premises now registered.
During the year 162 visits of inspection have been paid to these
premises; notices were served upon the occupiers in 4 cases, 2 of
which were for dairy requiring limewashing, 1 for no cover to
milk pan and 1 for dirty premises.
Under the powers conferred by the London County Council
(General) Powers Act, 1908, Section 5, with respect to the registration
of premises unsuitable for the sale of milk, such registration
has been refused on the grounds of the unsuitability of the
premises in 1 case.
Ice Cream Premises. There were 126 premises known at
the commencement of the year where the manufacture of this
commodity was carried on; 6 have been added during the year and
28 taken off, leaving a total of 104 premises. These premises were
inspected on 114 occasions, and improvements required cither by
way of cleansing of the premises in 3 cases and remedving of
sanitary defects in 2 cases.
Food Preparation. Places where food is prepared have been
visited on 241 occasions, improvements being required in .32
instances, as detailed below: —
