Circulatory System. The Death Rate from diseases of this
system was 194 per 1,000, there being a total of 187 such deaths.
Valvular Diseases of the heart were responsible for 83, 0 from
Hypertrophy of the Heart, 1 from Angina Pectoris, 3 from
Aneurism, 3 from Pericarditis, 1 from Embolism, and from the
remaining diseases of this system, 96.
Respiratory System. Three hundred and one deaths
were due to diseases of the respiratory organs, as compared with
115 in the preceding year. The Death Rate under this heading
equals 3.12 per 1,000. Sixty-three were from Acute and 72 from
Chronic Bronchitis; 146 from the various forms of Pneumonia, 60
being under five years of age, and 6 from Pleurisy, 8 to Emphysema,
2 to Laryngitis, and 4 to other diseases.
Digestive System. There were 76 deaths from diseases of
this system, equal to a rate of 0 65 per 1,000; (also Enteritis was
responsible for 10, 7 being under five years of age); 5 were
due to Ulcer of the Stomach and Duodenum, 6 to Appendicitis,
11 to obstruction, and 2 to other diseases of the Intestines,
14 to Cirrhosis, and 4 to other diseases of the Liver, 3 to
Peritonitis, 11 to other diseases of Stomach, and 2 to other diseases
of the Digestive System, and 2 to diseases of Mouth and Annexa.
Lymphatic System. There were 2 deaths from diseases
affecting this system during the year.
Urjnary System. Fifty-eight deaths, equal to a rate of 0.50
per 1,000, occurred from diseases affecting this system. Forty
were from Bright's Disease, 7 from Acute Nephritis, 1 from Calculus,
6 from diseases of the Bladder and Prostate, and 4 from
other and ill-defined causes of the urinary system.
Reproductive System. Disease of the generative organs was
the cause of 2 deaths, one death was attributed to diseases of
Uterus and Appendages and 1 to Testis and Penis. There were
2 deaths, attributed to diseases of Parturition.
