notices. In one case an abatement order was made with
£1 1s. 0d. cost, and the other summonses were with
drawn as the nuisances had been abated.
A summons was also issued against a builder for contravening
the bye-laws relating to the construction of
soil pipes and a penalty of 5s. with £2 2s. 0d. costs was
imposed.
Staff of Public Health Department.—Two of
your Inspectors, Mr. F. Manning and Mr. M. Canton,
and two of the Clerks in the Public Health Department
are still serving in the Army, and the places of the latter
two have been filled by Mr. Barnett and Mrs. Hart.
For the willing and able assistance they have at all times
given me, I have to thank most heartily the Sanitary
Inspectors and the members of the clerical staff.
