Drainage of Buildings.—During the year the following drainage plans were submitted to and approved by the Public Health Committee :-

Combined Drainage.—Five systems of combined
drainage for the maintenance of which the Council
was liable, were re-constructed by the Council's contractor
at a cost of £51 5s. 7d. The sum of
£47 17s. 3d. was paid to the owners of four houses
in respect of work carried out by them in compliance
with the Council's notices in connection with
the drains which were " sewers" as defined by the
Metropolis Local Management Act, 1855.
Certificates under the Revenue Acts.—Applications
were received for certificates under the
Revenue Acts for exemption from or abatement of
inhabited house duty, in respect of 160 tenements, of
which 98 were granted, 29 were given after certain
specified sanitary requirements had been complied with,
and 33 were refused.
Certificates in respect of 654 dwellings, which had
been granted for a limited period, were renewed.
General Sanitary Work.—1,013 complaints of
nuisances were received which were dealt with by your
Sanitary Inspectors. 1,202 intimation and 293 statutory
notices were served.
