During the year 1916, Miss Portlock (the inspector appointed
for the inspection of outworkers premises) made 1,268 inspections
and 1,010 re-inspections. She also made 467 visits without inspections,
the outworkers having left the premises (145), or having
given up homework (74), or being out at the time of visit (188),
or owing to a wrong address being given (42), or the premises
being workshops (17), or male workers alone being employed (1).

COMBINED DRAINAGE WORKS REFERRED TO THE
BOROUGH ENGINEER AND SURVEYOR DURING 1916.
During this year 12 notices of defective systems of combined
drainage works were referred for consideration to the Surveyor.
