VACCINATION.
Of the 5,562 births registered in 1919, the returns of vaccination show
that only 2,392 infants were successfully vaccinated, while 20 were found to be
insusceptible. The were also 364 who died unvaccinated, and 1,583 statutory
declarations of conscientious objection to vaccination were obtained by the
parents or guardians. 22 vaccinations were postponed under medical authority,
thus leaving 1,181 unaccounted for. The return of certificates of exemption,
therefore, represents 28.5 per cent. of the registered births.
