The rateable value of property within the administrative county of London
was £44,602,362 on 6th April, 1909—whilst on the same date the
corresponding rateable value o£ property in the City of London, including
Temples, was £5,451,836, or nearly one-eighth of the whole County.
The undermentioned figures are abstracted from the Registrar-General's Report, dated 30th December, 1901, on the Census of England and "Wales, 1901 (County of London).

For Registration, Parliamentary and Municipal purposes the boundaries
of the City are co-terminous.
These figures represent the population on the night of the 1st April, 1891
and 1901, exclusive of sub-district of Glasshouse Yard (see note on page 14).
A Day Census—the number of persons actively engaged in the City during
the daytime—has been taken on three occasions, viz., in 1866, 1881, and
1891. It is to be regretted that no Day enumeration was made in the
City during the last Imperial Census year.
