TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARY.
Report of Tuberculosis Officer for the period September 1st,
1913, to January 3rd, 1914.
To the Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,
I have the honour to submit the first report upon the work
carried out at the Tuberculosis Dispensary.
As the Institution was only opened to the public on the 1st
September last, this account, representing as it does the work of
the short period of four months only, must of necessity be brief
and somewhat incomplete.
It would seem advisable that I should at the onset give you a
short account of the aim of the Dispensary, and the character of
the work which is being carried out there. This may be enumerated
under the two headings of " Treatment," and " Prevention."
Treatment.
1. The examination of patients referred to the Dispensary
from the undermentioned sources:—
A. Cases notified by the Medical Officer of Health.
B. Cases sent by Practitioners for Diagnosis, for treatment
or for consultation only.
C. Cases sent by voluntary charitable Institutions.
D. Patients who voluntarily attend through the medium
of existing patients.
2. Treatment of Patients suffering from Tuberculosis.
A. Provision of open shelters.
B. Selection of cases for Sanatorium, or Hospital, and for
Open-air Schools.
C. The "After Care" of patients discharged from
toria.
