to obtain temporary premises for use until such time as permanent
buildings could be obtained. Such temporary premises were
obtained, suitably fitted up, a Tuberculosis Officer in the person
of Dr. W. B. Hill was appointed, together with the necessary
Staff, and the premises opened for the public on September 1st.
Throughout the whole of the year, and up to the present time in
the current year, search has been made for other premises which
might be rendered suitable, or a plot of land upon which premises
might be built, and at the present time a plot of land has been
selected, and plans for the erection of suitable buildings have
been forwarded to the Local Government Board for their approval.
The question of dealing with Infant Diarrhoea during the hot
weather has been under consideration practically throughout
the whole of the year. No additional temporary Inspector was
appointed this year, an endeavour being made to do the work
by means of the present Staff; but it was found to be quite impossible
to cope with it in this way, and at the present time, with a view
to more thoroughly dealing with this matter during the current
year, the Council have approved the appointment of a Health
Visitor to devote herself entirely to visitation under Notification
of Births Act and deal with Diarrhœa notifications in the
summer months. The Infant Consultation in East Greenwich was
opened in the beginning of June, since which time it has been
carrying on very useful work under the Voluntary Committee of
ladies as indicated last year.
In conclusion I have again to tender my best thanks to each
and all Members of the Council, and the Public Health Committee
in particular, for their continued kindness and support, and also to
the Members of the Staff for the manner in which their duties
have been performed.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours respectfully,
ERNEST G. ANNIS.
